"As a member of the Junior ROTC program, Yazmin obtained the second-highest "Position” a cadet can have in our program as the Viking Battalion Executive Officer, an exceptional performance by an outstanding cadet and student. As the Executive Officer, Yazmin supervises a Staff of 20 cadets in support of our program. Yazmin managed the implementation of West Point Leadership Ethics & Diversity in STEM at a local Middle school. Yazmin was the Project Manager for pulling together over 100 cadets to help in this event with West Point Cadets and local Public Officials. The goal was to engage students in Leadership ethics to help them realize the importance of Ethical Leadership in a STEM-Dominated society. The exercises and other activities are designed to give students tools to become more effective ethical decision-making leaders.”

Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps Veterans of Foreign Wars Bronze Award is presented to a cadet in the ROTC program for recognition of their outstanding achievement and exceptional leadership ability. Any 10th, 11th, or 12th grade student who is currently enrolled as a JROTC Cadet actively engaged in the JROTC Program, and one who meets the criteria for the award.
Criteria.
1. Possession of individual characteristics contributing to leadership including:
a. Positive attitude toward the Junior ROTC program.
b. Outstanding military bearing and conduct both in and out of uniform.
c. Personal attributes (self-confidence, initiative, flexibility, judgement).
d. Patriotism (commander or member of color guard, drill team with or without arms, flag protocol instruction team, and actively promote Americanism).
e. Courtesy (dependability, punctuality, human relations, respect, cooperation).
f. Growth potential (capable of assuming high leadership responsibilities in JROTC Unit with additional training and experience).
2. Attainment of a grade of "B” in JROTC with an overall average of "C” in all subjects for the previous semester. Must not have a failing grade in any subject for that period of time.
3. Must be active in at least one other student co-curricular activity or club; i.e., music, athletics, student government, Junior Achievement, Scouting, etc.
4. Must not have been a previous recipient of the award.
